Ash is the portrait series I made immediately after the mountain I live next to caught fire (Bobcat fire here in Southern California). The result of the fine grey particles falling back onto the charcoal black vegetation made the effect of the landscape looking like it had directional lighting for about a day and a half before the wind scattered the effect. I tried to take pictures of the phenomenon but couldn't get close enough since the trails were closed and danger still loomed. I recreated the look on a model as part of my gigapixel flat face series. This absolutely massive portrait is still being proofed over a year later but that can't stop me from making these upsetting-looking shorts.
